In the world of online commerce, consumers don’t just expect functionality, they expect experience. Digital experience is a burgeoning consideration for companies, with some organizations opting to employ a chief experience officer (CXO).

With Adobe Commerce, you can create memorable digital experiences by personalizing sites for specific customer segments, hosting multiple instances on one platform, and integrating with other Adobe products like Adobe Experience Manager and Adobe Creative Cloud (the family of software that includes Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro).

But how can your online shop provide customers with a unique digital experience and stand out from the competition?

Consider allowing shoppers to personalize products in Adobe Commerce.

How Product Personalization Can Boost Your Bottom Line

In previous generations, ecommerce was focused on simply meeting needs. Today, consumers expect a different kind of shopping experience: one that is personalized and seamless.

Not only can personalization increase your conversion rate, but it can also drive up your average order value as personalized products cost more and have higher margins as customers expect to pay 30% more for a customized product. Personalized products provide greater value for your customers and greater returns for your company.

Get to Know Adobe Commerce

Formerly known as Magento, Adobe Commerce is a digital ecommerce platform that allows users to create ecommerce pages with simple yet powerful drag-and-drop controls.

You might recognize Adobe from its products which are industry standards across multiple industries – products such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, and Acrobat.

Not satisfied with leading the industry in photo editing, PDF management, and graphic design, Adobe is a leading vendor in ecommerce and a Leader in the 2022 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce Report for the sixth year in a row.

3 Steps to Personalize Products in Adobe Commerce

Adobe Commerce makes it easy to offer limited customizations to products directly from its interface.

Step 1. Create a Configurable Product

Configurable products are similar to simple products, but rather than creating a unique product for each variation, configurable products bring collections of attributes into one product screen.

For example, rather than having a unique product page for each color of the garment, you can simply create one configurable product for the garment with each color as a selectable attribute of the product.

To create a configurable product:

  1. Navigate to the Admin sidebar and open the Catalog page from the toolbar on the left side of the screen.
  2. Under Products, open the Add Product drop-down menu and select “Configurable Product.”
  3. Add attributes like price, weight, and country of manufacture just like you would for a simple product.

Step 2. Select Configurations

Each type of configuration multiplies the number of variations your customers can create, which means it also multiplies the number of SKUs you will need to assign.

For instance, if a product has 5 colors and 6 sizes, it has 30 total combinations of color and size. If it also has 4 different materials, that multiplies those 30 combinations by 4 for a total of 120 different SKUs.

To create configurable attributes:

  1. Scroll down to the Configurations section and click the “Create Configurations” button.
  2. Select each attribute that you’d like to use as a configuration.
  3. Click “Next” and select the individual attribute values that you’d like to offer.

Step 3. Prepare Items for Your Shop

After you’ve created a configurable product and selected the attributes that you’ll allow your users to configure, the last step is to prepare your items to go live on your shop.

Adobe Commerce allows you to upload individual pictures for each attribute combination and customize prices for each combination of configurations. If each configuration has the same price, you can simply set one default price that every configuration will default to.

Once you’ve added all the product information you’d like to display, set Enable Product to “Yes” and save and close your product. It is now live on your shop with all the configuration options you created.
